Disabling Opel / Vauxhall Z16XE EGR Valve

EGR Valve - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.

The EGR valve allows your vehicle to more effectively and completely burn up fuel mixture by recirculating a part of the exhaust and running it over the combustion process once more. The EGR valve regulates a smaller passageway amongst the intake and exhaust manifolds. Once the valve opens, intake vacuum takes in exhaust via the valve. This leads to a cooler, considerably more complete burn of the gasoline which reduces you car's dangerous emissions by prohibiting the formation of certain harmful gases.

A duff EGR valve is quite expensive to replace, so many individuals wisely choose to eliminate the valve completely. The EGR cheater - emulator you will see here has been made for one goal, just to save you cash in case you must use money for something more important.

Z16XE EGR valve position

First thing you need to do is to obtain EGR blanking plate. You can buy it from a dealer, or you can make it yourself since it is not hard thing to do after all.

Z16XE blanking plate

Next thing to do is to remove your faulty EGR valve, position a blanking plate (picture above), and start assembling a quite simple circuit to trick the ECU into thinking that the EGR valve is working as it should.

Disabling a Working Z16XE EGR Valve

In case you have bad running problems, and you discover that jammed Z16XE EGR valve is triggering problems you can do this little trick.

  • Get a blanking plate from the supplier or make one on your own, remove your EGR, clean it properly, and after that position the plate in order to blank the outlet, bolt the back on, but too the edge to ensure the plunger can continue to move in and out and in addition keeping it connected to the power plug. The device will now be blanked, the ECU still believes the EGR is there and functioning, making your ECU happy without check engine light.

How to Make Z16XE EGR Valve Simulator-Cheater

PLEASE NOTE - Do It At Your Own Risk!  If you're not sure what you're doing than please DON'T do anything and ask for professional help.

Ok, lets start with all the parts you will need to make your Z16XE engine EGR valve simulator, cheater, emulator or you name it.

  • Relay (SPDTA common port links towards either of two others. Together with a pair for the coil, this type of relay gives you five terminals altogether

  • 510 ohm resistor

  •  3k3 resistor

  • 1k resistor

  • Stripboard (or similar)  to solder parts together.

  • Now solder components according to the following scheme and connect it to EGR valve connector.

  • I have installed precisely the same "EGR cheater", to my 1.6 Z16XE Opel/Vauxhall Vectra, driven for more than 600 mile approximately, practiced various driving styles, and NO EML light on!
